Telangana Shakuntala dies from a cardiac arrest

Veteran actress Telangana Shakuntala, who rose to fame from a stage actress to the most dominating woman on the silver screen has bid adieu to the world on June 14, 2014 due to a heart attack at her residence in Hyderabad. Her sudden demise despite being healthy sent shock waves in the film industry.

The year 2013 and 2014 has gone by, leaving behind just the memories of some of its stalwarts who left for a heavenly journey, making it mournful years for the film lovers. Tollywood already lost finest actors like Srihari, AVS, Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniam, Uday Kiran, ANR, Anjali Devi and now Telangana Shakuntala, who was the favourite villain and character star of Telugu film industry with several films to her kitty.

Films which enhanced her popularity are ‘Osey Ramulamma’, ‘Nuvvu Nenu’, ‘Sandade Sandadi’, ‘Okkadu’, ‘Evadi Gola Vadidhi’, ‘Bendu Appa Rao RMP’ and ‘Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda’.

The Tollywood industry lost one of its most commanding and dominating actresses after Suryakantam. She came into spotlight with her popular dialogue ‘Nee Thalli’ from Teja’s film ‘Nuvvu Nenu’ starring Uday Kiran and Anitha in lead roles. Shakuntala won the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film ‘Swarnakka’.

Born in Maharashtrian family in 1951, her father being an Army Officer and mother a housewife, Shakuntala made her stage debut in a play at Ravindra Bharathi in 1970s. Later she was introduced to the silver screen with a character role in ‘Maa Bhoomi’ by director Goutam Ghose. The actress earned a nick name ‘Telangana’ for her fluent Telangana accent and thus turned Telangana Shakuntala. The 63 year old was admitted to the Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital at the early hours today, where she was declared brought dead. Shakuntala is survived by a daughter and a son.
