Speaking at an event on Tuesday, director Chandoo Mondeti said that he wants to make a historical film with Naga Chaitanya as the hero. His words suggested the project might be finalized within a couple of years.
"I have plans to make a film based on the life of Tenali Ramakrishna," the Thandel director said. He quipped that Sobhita Dhulipala, Chay's wife, must transfer her Telugu-speaking skills to him for the movie.
Incidentally, Chay's grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, played Tenali Ramakrishna in a 1956 film by the same name. The Telugu-language political drama was based on a novel. NTR was seen as Sri Krishnadevaraya, while V Nagayya was seen as Timmarusu in it. Mukkamala was seen as Tatacharya.
Chandoo Mondeti wants to adapt Tenali Ramakrishna's tale to today's times. It will be a Herculean task, though. If he succeeds in the mission, he will have scripted history.
