Kuberaa is co-written by Pingali Chaitanya in collaboration with Sekhar Kammula. Chaitanya, before stepping into cinema writing, was a journalist. She is a granddaughter of freedom fighter Pingali Venkaiah, who designed the National Flag. She won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar (Telugu) for her contribution to Telugu literature in the year 2016.
Her father, Dasaradha Ram, was a legendary publisher and journalist. His publication, Encounter, was a sensation. He published many controversial stories about political stalwarts. Purists accused him of resorting to extreme language. In 1985, he was brutally hacked to death. At that time, the Congress party alleged that the TDP government was behind Dasaradha Ram's death. It was deemed a political murder by NTR's opponents. But no court has been able to establish the charge.
In an interview, Chaitanya spoke of her childhood, saying that she was just three when her father was killed. "Till I was in the 8th Standard, my mother kept telling me that my father had died in a road accident. It's only after I grew up that I came to know that it was a political murder," Chaitanya said. Chaitanya's mother, Suseela, faced economic hardships after her husband's death.
