Has Chhaava caused Hindu-Muslim riots? BJP CM opens up

It is known that violence broke out in Maharashtra's Nagpur on Monday. On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a statement in the Assembly about the riot. He mentioned the Bollywood blockbuster movie Chhaava in his speech.

"Chhaava brought the history of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj before the people and their sentiments were ignited. Also, the public anger against Aurangzeb is coming to the fore. Keeping these things in mind, the law and order system must be maintained and everyone should be patient. If anyone riots, we will take action regardless of caste or religion," the BJP CM has been quoted as saying by NDTV.

A section of the national media has interpreted Devendra's statement in the Assembly as a criticism of the Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna movie. However, the BJP CM didn't blame Chhaava in any manner. He blamed pre-planned conspiracy for the riots. “I am not blaming any movie, but Chhaava has brought to us the true history of Chhatrapati Samhaji Maharaj,” Fadnavis has been quoted as saying by OpIndia.

Chhaava was released in Telugu on March 7. It did fairly well at the Telugu box office. The release of Court on March 14 nearly ended its run.
