Sequels Reign Supreme: Jr NTR's Remake Idea Battles Changing Tastes

Jr NTR is currently in Japan to participate in the promotions of Devara's Japanese release. Devara, directed by Koratala Siva, was released in theatres in September 2024. NTR Arts and Tarak are expecting the action drama to collect a good amount of money in Japan.

Meanwhile, a quote attributed to the RRR actor is doing the rounds. In a recent interview, he is understood to have stated that he would like to opt for a remake of one of his grandfather's films, provided the right director-producer combo is ready. "Given my grandfather’s legendary legacy in mythology, I must approach it with care," the Aravindha Sametha actor said.

But remakes are largely passe. Even if you are remaking a classic from decades ago, the lure is limited. This is the epoch of sequels. The schedules of almost all major stars are tight. Each film is in the making for at least two years, leaving the big actors limited legroom for experiments. The remake train has long passed. About ten years ago, Naga Chaitanya and Jr NTR used to be asked about their interest in remaking Missamma, fronted by ANR and NTR. That enthusiasm is not there even among fans these days. The majority of the audience want to watch blood-letting actioners.
