'Unstoppable' is a full-on comedy that never bores you: VJ Sunny

'Unstoppable' is heading to theatres on June 9. The comedy entertainer is directed by Diamond Ratnababu. The film is headlined by VJ Sunny and Saptagiri. In this interview, Sunny of Bigg Boss Telugu fame talks about the film's strengths at length. "I am up for character/supporting roles in movies. I am not fancying my chances to be a hero," Sunny says in this heartfelt interview.

I come from a journalism background. I am the first journalist-turned-hero in India. I have gone through enough struggles. I am used to facing the camera. I have always enjoyed being in front of the camera. It's the camera that energizes me to the core!

After my Bigg Boss victory, I received a number of offers from small producers. The stories were rich in commercialism. Some of them were massy. Some stories had me in the role of a rebellious student. They didn't interest me at all. I instead looked for enjoyable, fun-filled, or thrilling stories. I also wanted to do a horror-comedy. 'Unstoppable' came as the answer, as it is a full-on comedy entertainer.

I got to work with some of the most senior artists. They were very comfortable to work with. They were respectful towards one and all. The male lead and the comedy artist need to share a strong rapport. I have become good friends with '30 Years Industry' Prudhviraj garu. He was always supportive. Posani Krishna Murali garu and I don't share screen space in the film. I got to interact with him, though.

I come from a theatre background. It was relatively easy to work with seniors, thanks to the experience. I and Saptagiri worked in a competitive spirit. I matched his acting style and vice-versa. He plays my buddy throughout the film. Chiccha and Maccha are our names in the movie. We get entrapped and how we extricate ourselves from it is what the film is about. How do they handle pressure from everyone around them?

It's fun to watch the film. Suspense is maintained till the end. It is believed that comedy entertainers don't need a strong storyline. 'Unstoppable' is different. The story is about the importance of money in our lives. The humour will surely satisfy the audience. Each comedy artist in the film comes with a unique style. Prudhviraj garu's character triggers something at the start. The rest of us take the story forward from there. Every ten minutes, there is a new comedy artist flipping into the story. One thing I can assure you. 'Unstoppable' doesn't bore you anywhere.

I latched on to 'Unstoppable' only because of the story. I had listened to 30 unsatisfactory stories before. Diamond Ratnababu might have scored a flop in the form of 'Son Of India'. But that doesn't mean his journey must come to an end. He continues to live his dream.

After Bigg Boss Telugu, I have been making calibrated moves. I did the web series 'ATM' (streaming on ZEE5) under Dil Raju Productions. Bigg Boss doesn't ensure permanent fame. You have to keep building your career wisely. I have consciously stayed away from stories that wanted me to behave like a star hero. I know people won't find such stories believable for me. I want to assume the commoner's personality in movies.

After 'ATM', Harish Shankar, who has worked with Power Star Pawan Kalyan himself, complimented me by saying that I did a great job. Such compliments matter to me. I am confident that I can play challenging roles as an artist. I don't have any dreams to become a hero.

I am doing a comedy and a suspense thriller currently. They are my upcoming releases.

I am not a social media person. These days, I am active, though. I am receiving positive feedback from my followers. I am active on SM only to read their feedback. After my Bigg Boss stint, my follower count rose to six lakh. I later became inactive. So much so, Instagram reminded me that I was not active!
